What is your book’s genre or category?
I would say that my book is romance. Rather, it’s more of a rock romance because it’s centered on the band, Ghosts of Burning Inn, and the main characters, Catherine and Ben.
Can you describe the story in one or two sentences for our readers?
Basically, the first book of this series follows Catherine’s start into Ghosts of Burning Inn. We also see the first time she meets Ben and falls for him.
Tell us the story behind Ghosts Of Burning Inn. What influenced you to write it and how long did it take you?
I wanted to write a rock romance for a very long time. I’m a huge fan of rock music so it just seemed right. I also really like to write music and this gave me an opportunity to do something different. I also wanted something that wasn’t fantasy, mystery, or paranormal (which is usually what I like).
The story of Ghosts of Burning Inn is a romance story while also following the rise of the band, Ghosts of Burning Inn. Into the Limelight is the first book in the series.
Is there a part of you in any of the characters?
Oh, I would say all the main characters are like me. Catherine is especially like me with her love of music and the tragedy in her life. She’s a relatively quiet, intelligent woman who stresses out easily when change happens so fast.
Do your have more books planned?
Yes, the second book will be coming out in Spring 2016! I also started the third book. I imagine this series will be between 4-5 books.
Do you have a favorite book that inspires you?
Not really. I have a lot of books I like reading but I don’t think anything in particular influenced my style.
When did you decide to become a writer?
It’s something I’ve been doing for a while now. I started as a child and I’ve never stopped writing.
How do you find the time to write?
I write when I get free time. I work during the day and evening hours around 8 is when I start writing. I just have to make time if I don’t get any. I have to write at least 1000 words or I don’t feel right.
How can readers find you online?
Blogs (slightly under construction but you can still follow):
Into the Limelight (Ghosts of Burning Inn Book 1)
(From Chapter 2)
“Sorry I’m late, guys. I had to talk to Chet about something.” Ben took his place in front. “I think I might have found a solution to our little issue with getting a record deal.”
“You have? Does that mean we’re going to be a boy band or something?” Trevor asked.
“Oh no. I’m not changing our music. I was thinking about adding someone to our group,” he explained. “We can be a five-member band instead.”
“A five-member band?” Leo looked confused. “Do we really need another member? We’ve been doing fine on our own.”
“I know, but I was thinking about other bands out there. These days, you can see that they have at least one woman in their band. I was thinking that maybe we can have one in ours, too. I didn’t go in to check her out but she seems perfect. I saw her play last night. She’s pretty good,” Ben admitted. “I’ve seen so many musicians lose their cool in the middle of their performance, but she stayed focused all the way through.”
“You think she’s the one?” Leo asked.
“I don’t know what it is about her, guys. She seems perfect to me.” The rest of his band looked apprehensive and he knew that they were all having second thoughts. “What? You should have been there with me last night! She was great!”
“I believe you, man. We just don’t know if she’d be right for us,” Trevor said. “All right, so other bands do have at least one girl in them. If she’s willing to play with us, I’m all for her being a part of it. I just need to make sure she’s good.”
“Why wouldn’t she be right for us? I told you she’s good. Wouldn’t that be enough?”
“Have you heard the music she plays?” Raphael asked. “Don’t get me wrong. We trust you. She’s probably fantastic at what she does. That’s the thing, though: she is good at classical music. Has she ever played anything more current? Does she have any interest in playing in a rock band? You’ve got to take that into consideration. She might not even fit in.”
Ben’s mind was still focused on Catherine Chang, so he ended up hearing half of what Raphael said. “What do you mean, she might not fit in?”
“I’m basing this on what you said. She seems to be on the classy side. Look at her and look at us. Do you really think she’s going to join a bunch of tattooed, pierced dudes who love sex, alcohol, and rock and roll? Even if she does say yes, she’s going to stick out in the group.”
“We can make it work, guys! Before you know it, she’d be like one of us!” Ben insisted. “I’ll admit I had no idea what to expect when I went to see her. I know I don’t really know her, I just know that she’s a good musician. My mother just sent me this ticket since she can’t go. I thought about selling it, but changed my mind and went at the last minute. I’m kind of glad that I did.”
The rest of the band was still unconvinced. Trevor shifted around in his chair and thought about what could make their lead singer do this. Ben was not the kind to jump to conclusions and pick someone at random for their band. “All right, let’s say she agrees to join us. Is she willing to put in the hours for the band? Maybe she has her own things to worry about. You can’t expect her to drop everything and come to our side. Besides, how are you going to approach her? You can’t tell her that the only reason you were at her show was because you had a free ticket.”
Ben frowned but he knew Trevor had a point. He could not tell Catherine Chang that he only went to the show because his mother couldn’t go. It would show that he didn’t have interest in her. “I’ll keep that to myself. I mean, it’s not that big of a detail that I need to mention. The truth is I went and I enjoyed it. In any case, whether you agree with me or not, I’m still interested in her. I should probably call Chet and see if he can arrange a meeting. As for the hours, I know we’ll manage. I doubt she’s going to be busy 24/7. I mean, we’re not always playing so we can work around her schedule.”
Raphael was still doubtful. “You know I love you, man, but I’m not sure about this. If you’re only interested in her because she’s hot or something…”
“No!” Ben cut him off. “I mean, yes, she is hot. She’s beautiful and talented, which are two things I love in women. Her music got me more than her looks did, though. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone play the way she has.”
“Can she play rock music?” Leo asked.
“I haven’t seen her do that, but I bet she could. Our music isn’t that hard. Seriously, I think we should give her a try. Let’s see if she can gel with us.”
“Gel with us?” Trevor asked. “What the hell does that mean?”
“You know exactly what I’m trying to say! I want to see if she fits in and if she’s interested. She could be the one thing that gives us our big break,” he said. “You know, they want us to make changes. Catherine being in our band would be a huge change. We have to let her try out. Just stick with me on this one, okay? If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work.”
The other three finally nodded in agreement.
“All right, dude. You win,” Raphael said. “Go and talk to her. See what she says. We’re behind you, no matter what happens.”
“You guys don’t have a choice,” Ben smirked.
Deep down, he was looking forward to seeing Catherine in person. He wanted to know everything about her. He wanted her to be a part of the band and give them the boost that they needed. Once she was there, things would turn up for them. They could forget about their hard times and move on. She was going to save them if she joined them.
She needed to save them.
